The Maldives atolls off the southern coast of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean has remained one of the most evocative of beach paradises from time immemorial. 1190 islands emerge from 26 coral atolls spread over an area of 90 000 Sq.Km. Only 199 islands are inhabited of which 74 have been set aside for tourism development, mainly for a high end clientele. The hotels for the most part are alone on their individual atoll and offer modern services in a secluded exclusive atmosphere. The reefs and lagoons offer a unique opportunity to explore marine life. Diving or snorkelling, or swimming are the main leisure activities.
